This week’s Web Business Entrepreneur Spotlight is the Clark Family from Dallas, Oregon. Daniel, and his wife, Lisa, started their own internet home business three years ago. “I wasn’t sure it would work”", recalls Daniel, “I was skeptical, but I knew we needed to make a lifestyle change for our family”.

Daniel was working as an electrician and spent many weeks on the road. “It was really hard on our young family to have Daniel constantly traveling. It was causing a strain on our marriage,” revealed Lisa.

After doing some research on the internet Daniel decided the he should set up a drop-ship website.

Out of the many different types of online home businesses Daniel felt it made the most sense. In case you are not familiar with dropshipping it is simply a distribution model where interested parties sign up as Dealers for a specific product. The Dealers don’t have to worry about minimum orders, customer service, inventory, or even shipping. When Daniel makes a sale on his electrical supply site he emails the order to his supplier who will actually ship the product.

Daniel explained, ” The hardest part was actually the marketing. I was worried about building a site but with all the software out there now it wasn’t too hard. Now getting traffic that was hard.”

After not seeing any traffic for the first three weeks the Clarks grew restless wondering if they had made a mistake in building a store. That is when Lisa not wanting resign to failure started reading about pay-per-click advertising. In her own words, Annie explains PPC,” it was the fastest way for us to get traffic. Basically, you make an add for a specific keyword and bid on it”.

By the third day of running pay per click the Clarks were not only seeing traffic but had four sales. That was Daniel’s wake up call. He finally started seeing the potential of his little store. It could be more than just a source of extra income.

Lisa and Daniel decided he should start working only part-time so he could have more time to dedicate to growing the business. “That was the best decision we ever made!” proudly declares Lisa.

With monthly gross sales in the upper 5 figures the Clarks have plenty of time to be together as a family.

The learning curve with pay per click is steep and unforgiving. Many will lose money early on with their campaigns. Be patient and keep learning. Your dropshipping business will go to the next level once you have optimized ads running. It is often easier to start by advertising on Yahoo and MSN then moving into the Big Leagues of Google Adwords. There is less traffic and less competition on Yahoo which means you can get some test and mistakes out of the way without it costing you a fortune. Once you campaigns are profitable and you have done some scaling you can then move to Adwords.

Ad writing is crucial to getting high click through rates. On a recent campaign I received 21% ctr on an ad. While unusual it is possible. As always the number one tip for writing your ads is to copy the best. See what the top listed sponsored ads are saying and how the are saying it. They are number one for a reason. Take what they are doing and improve it with testing.

In today’s PPC Tip we are going to discuss and ad layout that has been leading to great click thourghs on recent campaigns. It is called the Click ARROW. As you already know Google will bold the keywords in your ad that match the keywords of the users search query, ie. yellow pants as a search will bold Yellow Pants in your ad. By strategically arranging these bold keywords you can catch the eye of prospective costumer. With the Click Arrow formation we create an “arrow” out of the bold key words.

Take a look at the following ad for yellow pants.

Yellow Pants Collection

Thousands Of Pant Styles For Kids,

Men & Women, 100% Free Shipping!

www.Zappos.com/Yellow-Pants/

The ad by Zappos leaves a lot to be desired. It uses the search query keywords in the title and destination url only. This is a poor use of the bold feature. Lets rewite this ad using the Click Arrow style.

Yellow Pants Collection

Cute Yellow Pants On Sale Today,

Yellow Pants- 100% Free Shipping!

www.Zappos.com/Yellow-Pants/

In the above example you can use how using the bold keywords we created an arrow using title, line 1 and line 2. The eyes of the searcher are drawn by the bold text to look directly at our ad and not at the rest of the page. This simple trick will definitely boost your CTR. Be sure to do A/B testing before you throw out your current ad. More Pay Per Click Tips to come.
