This week’s Web Business Entrepreneur Spotlight is the Clark Family from Dallas, Oregon. Daniel, and his wife, Lisa, started their own internet home business three years ago. “I wasn’t sure it would work”", recalls Daniel, “I was skeptical, but I knew we needed to make a lifestyle change for our family”.

Daniel was working as an electrician and spent many weeks on the road. “It was really hard on our young family to have Daniel constantly traveling. It was causing a strain on our marriage,” revealed Lisa.

After doing some research on the internet Daniel decided the he should set up a drop-ship website.

Out of the many different types of online home businesses Daniel felt it made the most sense. In case you are not familiar with dropshipping it is simply a distribution model where interested parties sign up as Dealers for a specific product. The Dealers don’t have to worry about minimum orders, customer service, inventory, or even shipping. When Daniel makes a sale on his electrical supply site he emails the order to his supplier who will actually ship the product.

Daniel explained, ” The hardest part was actually the marketing. I was worried about building a site but with all the software out there now it wasn’t too hard. Now getting traffic that was hard.”

After not seeing any traffic for the first three weeks the Clarks grew restless wondering if they had made a mistake in building a store. That is when Lisa not wanting resign to failure started reading about pay-per-click advertising. In her own words, Annie explains PPC,” it was the fastest way for us to get traffic. Basically, you make an add for a specific keyword and bid on it”.

By the third day of running pay per click the Clarks were not only seeing traffic but had four sales. That was Daniel’s wake up call. He finally started seeing the potential of his little store. It could be more than just a source of extra income.

Lisa and Daniel decided he should start working only part-time so he could have more time to dedicate to growing the business. “That was the best decision we ever made!” proudly declares Lisa.

With monthly gross sales in the upper 5 figures the Clarks have plenty of time to be together as a family.

**Internet Home Business Scam Alert **

As always IHBT is exposing scammers who prey on people trying to make money online for the first time. With so many different gurus and programs out there it is hard to know who you can trust. Before you buy and product do your research. Make sure you can get your money back as well. All too often people will fall for a scam and lose a little money but the real damage is they lose their enthusiasm and drive to actually improve their life through having an internet home based business. To ensure you don’t lose you drive and give up we will continue to spotlight bogus money wasting systems.

More than likely you have come across a site, sponsored listing, or classified ad claiming you can turn your computer in to a cash machine. Don’t be sold by the hype. Most of these programs offer little if any real information and what is given is readiliy accessible on the internet. While it is possible to make money online from your computer these program offer no assistance and will not give you the resources you really need to make money online.

Essentially what you will learn in these programs is Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate Marketing is a referral business. By sending visitors to a site you gain commissions on anything they purchase. These programs charge you to tell you how to do a free online business. They also make it seem much easier than it actually is. Look at this familiar headline,

“Turn Your Computer Into a Money-Making Machine!”
This program setup you up as an affiliate of the program so you can sell it you others just like you got sold. You make money selling the same system you bought to learn to make money. The problem is they don’t offer real value and they don’t give you proper training on how to market a program like this. Also be aware to the market competition for these type of programs. There is no greater competition online than the make money online niche. You will be competing with the best of the best of online marketers. Not a good idea for your first online business.

When starting a home based internet business or any business for that matter, it’s key to not be lost in the flood of similar companies offering similar services. Perhaps the first and most important step in assuring this doesn’t happen is often overlooked: Choosing the right logo.

In establishing an identity for your company, no matter the size, it’s important that you convey the sense of high quality and professionalism you strive to offer to potential customers. A logo is a very simple way to do this.

By knowing the ins and outs of the services you offer as a viable entity in the marketplace of business, it helps in unimaginable ways when choosing or helping to design the right logo.

A Nike without its sharp, streamlined logo is just as useless as the Apple corporation with anything but its namesake gracing its products and packaging. Simply stated, a logo should be a creative expression of a combination of things.

Attributes ranging from color, font, size, and obviously the actual logo itself should be taken into consideration when selecting a suitable logo.

Many companies choose to circumvent the obvious and use symbolism in their logos as well, and while these kinds of logos are based on organic and imaginative forms, they usually fit as they put on display the properties of a multifaceted company.

In selecting a logo a home based internet business owner is taking a large step in the right direction. Making sure the logo conveys the right message for your company is also a large step and is also paramount in achieving success.

Remember to use creativity as well as professionalism in making your selection and you’ll be on the right track to being the proud owner of a logo fit for a mogul.

Don’t let your logo scare away customers to your internet home business. Spending extra money to get a quality logo is well worth it. With such low start up cost associated with e commerce sometimes people are tempted to cut corners. Don’t do it.

Among the many decisions that must be made in starting an internet home business, among the most important and, perhaps, the longest lasting is the domain name.

With the growth of the world wide web, many of the possible (and most desirable) domain names one might choose for a specific enterprise are all taken. Still, there are many possibilities left to contemplate – one needs only a little imagination.

If one has already been informally developing a brand, especially of one’s own name, a good place to begin is with the brand name. Combining that name with the product or service – say, JanesDolls or JimWoodsDTP (DTP is short for DeskTop Publishing) – can yield a number of possibilities that may well still be available. Also additional an additional descriptor may be the trick that is needed, such as JanesHomemadeDolls or JWProfessionalDTP. While the possibilities seem endless, there are literally millions of web sites across the globe. Do not be too surprised if the really cool name you contrived is already taken.

Indeed, the next step is to repeat the first as many times as possible – develop a list of possibilities then check their availability. If one particular idea for a domain name is taken, the likelihood of many different names all being taken is much lower.

Should one not have already begun developing a brand, there is no need to despair. Combining a personally favorite word along with the product or service and even a descriptor can yield excellent, even enlightening results. What would one think of ParamourChocolateDolls? Still, while a name may be interesting and even intriguing, simplicity (insofar as can be done) is still the rule of the day.

Regardless of the existence of a brand or not, selecting keywords that describe your business is important, and using those keywords in the domain name can be crucial for success, especially when so many of the ‘good’ names are taken. Equally important is that good keywords employed in the domain can do double duty in anchor links thereby increasing search engine optimization of the business website.

The most important aspect of choosing a domain name really isn’t the words that the domain might contain. Take Google for example, the domain implies nothing of search but it has become a mammoth online success. Choosing a domain name with the right keywords will increase the value of your incoming links. This is because the default anchor text many of your fans will use will contain simply your domain name. It is often more beneficial to choose a name good for search over a name good just for branding . As an online business owner its time to start thinking in terms of search engines as well as visitors.

Domains must be periodically registered, but, as the name that one’s business will be known as on the internet and as the place that will be linked to in both social media and marketing campaigns as well as by savvy, tech-literate bloggers and others– all driving traffic to one’s internet home business – a domain name really seems permanent.

Fortunately, checking the availability of a domain name is quite easy. Many web hosting sites will provide the service for free, such as GoDaddy.com or 1&1 as will name registrars such as namecheap.com. Now choose your domain name.
