This week’s Web Business Entrepreneur Spotlight is the Clark Family from Dallas, Oregon. Daniel, and his wife, Lisa, started their own internet home business three years ago. “I wasn’t sure it would work”", recalls Daniel, “I was skeptical, but I knew we needed to make a lifestyle change for our family”.

Daniel was working as an electrician and spent many weeks on the road. “It was really hard on our young family to have Daniel constantly traveling. It was causing a strain on our marriage,” revealed Lisa.

After doing some research on the internet Daniel decided the he should set up a drop-ship website.

Out of the many different types of online home businesses Daniel felt it made the most sense. In case you are not familiar with dropshipping it is simply a distribution model where interested parties sign up as Dealers for a specific product. The Dealers don’t have to worry about minimum orders, customer service, inventory, or even shipping. When Daniel makes a sale on his electrical supply site he emails the order to his supplier who will actually ship the product.

Daniel explained, ” The hardest part was actually the marketing. I was worried about building a site but with all the software out there now it wasn’t too hard. Now getting traffic that was hard.”

After not seeing any traffic for the first three weeks the Clarks grew restless wondering if they had made a mistake in building a store. That is when Lisa not wanting resign to failure started reading about pay-per-click advertising. In her own words, Annie explains PPC,” it was the fastest way for us to get traffic. Basically, you make an add for a specific keyword and bid on it”.

By the third day of running pay per click the Clarks were not only seeing traffic but had four sales. That was Daniel’s wake up call. He finally started seeing the potential of his little store. It could be more than just a source of extra income.

Lisa and Daniel decided he should start working only part-time so he could have more time to dedicate to growing the business. “That was the best decision we ever made!” proudly declares Lisa.

With monthly gross sales in the upper 5 figures the Clarks have plenty of time to be together as a family.

When starting a home based internet business or any business for that matter, it’s key to not be lost in the flood of similar companies offering similar services. Perhaps the first and most important step in assuring this doesn’t happen is often overlooked: Choosing the right logo.

In establishing an identity for your company, no matter the size, it’s important that you convey the sense of high quality and professionalism you strive to offer to potential customers. A logo is a very simple way to do this.

By knowing the ins and outs of the services you offer as a viable entity in the marketplace of business, it helps in unimaginable ways when choosing or helping to design the right logo.

A Nike without its sharp, streamlined logo is just as useless as the Apple corporation with anything but its namesake gracing its products and packaging. Simply stated, a logo should be a creative expression of a combination of things.

Attributes ranging from color, font, size, and obviously the actual logo itself should be taken into consideration when selecting a suitable logo.

Many companies choose to circumvent the obvious and use symbolism in their logos as well, and while these kinds of logos are based on organic and imaginative forms, they usually fit as they put on display the properties of a multifaceted company.

In selecting a logo a home based internet business owner is taking a large step in the right direction. Making sure the logo conveys the right message for your company is also a large step and is also paramount in achieving success.

Remember to use creativity as well as professionalism in making your selection and you’ll be on the right track to being the proud owner of a logo fit for a mogul.

Don’t let your logo scare away customers to your internet home business. Spending extra money to get a quality logo is well worth it. With such low start up cost associated with e commerce sometimes people are tempted to cut corners. Don’t do it.
